I heart Brussels

I'm struggling a little bit with blogging lately. There are so many things going on everyday I could fill post after post with it all. At night when I sit down to blog, I immediately get writer's block. Should I talk about the amazing, plentiful farmer's markets? The fashionable women? The beautiful architecture? The crazy gypsys? The weather? My kids being naughty on the metro? My kids being well-behaved (for once) on the metro? There is just so much to process!

To throw a blanket over it all right now, we are doing wonderfully. Is it possible, having been here such a short time, to feel as changed as I feel? I love the city, and right now I am loving Brussels. Brussels has such diversity in both nationalities and languages. It's facinating. My mom always says that "change brings growth" and I am definitely feeling that, and it's empowering and wonderful.

Today, we took a bit of a break from our unable-to-understand-anything-anyone-says world and went to an English bookstore (as much as I like my life, I don't mind speaking English in a store once in a while :>). I have been wanting a new journal like this to record my experiences and a couple of wall maps to hang in our new house. We didn't find either, but we did buy a couple of books that the boys have been enjoying today. I would highly recommend this one in particular:

Very funny and a great way to answer one of Brayden's favorite questions, "How did the dinosaurs get extinct?"

Tomorrow I think we are headed to the flea market to see what I can find to furnish our new place here. I've been drifting off to sleep at night dreaming of finding the perfect kitchen table and chairs, dining room buffet and hutch, or dresser for the kids, ready for a little sand paper and new coat of paint. Wish me luck in my quest...I'll keep you posted on my finds!

i've wondered how you can keep your posts so "short"-i would bet that you could write a book about all your discoveries and adventures...i hope you get that journal and write everything there that you aren't able to put on here!!! what amazing memories!

Lisa, I just love your positive outlook and attitude. I think that is the only way to learn and have fun!! You are a great example! I bet you could write a book each week about all your adventures!! I LOVE the journal you're looking to get....that is sooo pioneer-ish!!

Oh, and I laughed soooo hard at your memory that you left. I am such a terrible woman!! That is just plain terrible to say things like that to a little boy...but...it was just too funny! I think I better repent of it though...could keep me out of that kingdom I want! I love you guys to bits! Thanks for putting up with me.

Hi Lisa! Thanks for your comment on my blog. And welcome to Brussels! You have such an adventurous spirit about being here -- very cool. I'm happy to be a help/resource to you in whatever way I can -- of course I'll be sort of out of commission soon with #3, but please feel free to email me at jlmjacobs [at] yahoo [dot] com. And happy exploring!
