Brayden's first soccer game

As most of you know, I am a big sports fan. I grew up playing sports (I even remember playing "500" - you know, the football game - when I was 7 and 8 with the neighborhood boys) and still love playing sports when the opportunity presents itself. When I was dating, my dad used to joke that I needed to marry someone with athletic genes so we could "breed" athletes. Seconds after finding out that I was pregnant with Brayden it wasn't "Oh my gosh I'm pregnant!" It was, "T-minus 6 years until little league baby." Well, 6 years has passed and I officially have a child in organized sports. It's basically my dream come true. I set goals for both Brayden and I before the game. My goal for Brayden: no crying. My goal for me: Remember these kids are 4-6 years old and no demonstrative sideline over-praising or coaching. Brayden is extremely competitive and has a very hard time losing, and so we talked a lot about being a good sport and just having fun. When game time came, I have to say he did AWESOME. Seriously, I was so proud. No crying, no whining, just hustle, hustle, good attitude, and more hustle. He even scored 2 goals and helped his team to victory. At the end of the game, I was the one who wanted to break down and cry - cry tears of happiness and joy for my little budding athlete. I would like to think that I met my goal as well in maintaining a low profile, despite some excitement over Brayden scoring. I can't wait to do this again next week, and every week for the next 9 weeks. Ryan caught some of the magic with his camera, and the action shots really tell it all:

I am happy for you, but I must admit that I am in a whole other crowd of those that really hate having all those games and practices to be to. Plus, Matthew would run in circles around the other kids instead of playing in soccer....
But he is testing for his blue belt in Tae Kwon Do on Monday. I am very proud of him and so very glad that I can drop him off and go home with the little ones, except for his belt testing. Am I bad? ;)

I'm glad that your dream has finally come true! It is so much fun to watch the things your kids participate in. I'm always the crazy mom on the sidelines:(

One of my nephews sounds a lot like Brayden...He looked this little 4 year old girl in the face and said simply, "You're TOAST!"

Too funny! I am impressed as they actually look like they are playing a game . .maybe a product of being in Europe! Go Brayden though . .with you for a mom, I'm not sure how he couldn't turn out to be a great athlete. We sure miss you guys, but are glad that you are loving your time over there.

Hurray!! Did the announcers yell "GOOAAALL!!" for Braydon when he made his goal? Oh boy, these are SUPER fun times! I seriously like the uniforms they have...so much better than good ole parks and rec's here. Ours look like motor cross shirts...odd! Have fun being a soccer mom! :)

yay for brayden! he is such a stud muffin out there! and he DID get that from you...always looking so good during the games. :>

i can't believe you have a child old enough for such "organized" activities...i am pretty sure that kadence will be playing soccer next year - maybe she won't want to kick the ball AT people so much if she learns how fun it is to make goals. :> sure miss our LONG talks and hope you are well...we are watching the debate right now and it takes me back to our heavy political days :}

Wow that rocks! I'm totally with you, when kids come along (not meaning anytime soon) I can't wait to get them into sports! Especially soccer! And two goals! Dang You got a forward on your hands! All though the cheap shot might be more for full back... Fun stuff!
