Boys will be boys...thankfully

It's been a very busy little while at my house. Between my new calling, trying to get a little spring cleaning in, and just keeping up with the daily stuff, I've hardly had a moment to sit down at the computer.

Sometimes when I get into these "busy" modes, I start to feel bad that my kids aren't getting all of the attention that I think they need. But, to be honest, I always feel a lot of "mom" guilt for all sorts of things. You name the parenting area and I've probably felt inadequate in that area at one time or another in the last 4 years. One of the areas that I always feel bad about is the fact that my boys don't have acre upon acre to roam around on. Many times I have said that I wished we lived "back-in-the-day" and all worked the family farm together complete with climbing trees, fishing at the ol' fishin' hole, and discovering all sorts of little animals in the woods. I think my boys would love that life. Or even those wonderful childhood heros - Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn - what a great boy life! :) So, as silly as this sounds, those kinds of ideas cross my mind often, wondering if their little minds are being stunted by living in suburbia. Well, Brayden pretty much squelched any of those thoughts the other day when I walked into the backyard and found him like this:

Yup, there he is, hanging out in our dinky pine tree.

He was so happy and so proud of himself that he had climbed the tree and I was probably even more happy! The whole situation just warmed my heart. It definitely made me feel better to know that thankfully, boys will be boys, acreage or not.

I love this post. It's so true about the suberbia guilt and I have to tell you that girls will do it too. I found em in our pine tree a while back at the park (but its not small and she was really up there) I myself am afriad of hieghts so it was a releif she made it down herself. Let's buy 50 acres in Idaho and split it-eh? ps, I had to make my blog private, send an email and Ill get out an invite. I love reading yours!

that is so true (and even funnier that is was a small pine tree :))! boys will be boys no matter and sometimes it seems that the smaller the area they have the more trouble they can get into...maybe a couple/few acres would do us some good too...hmmm...great thought lisa :)

Loved the post!! Too true...but...the guilt feeling has got to go. You are the BEST mom ever!! Now that I have older boys....I am thinking that Cub and Boy Scouts make up for the suberbia life...my boys (adult man included) go nuts and always come home sooo stinky and dirty!
