THANK YOU for all of your support and good ideas about Landon and the windows! His windows are temporarily duct taped until I can get to Ikea and buy some window locks. :> In other updates, I had my blog page up on the computer and Brayden walked by and saw my doctored photo from the previous post. Immediately he said, "Hey! No fair! Why does Landon get to be a pirate and I have to be a fairy?!" hahaha
So, we have had a bit of bad luck this past week and both of the boys have been very sick. Brayden broke out into the worst case of hives I have ever seen (in what we think to be an overstimulation of his immune system) and was covered in welts from head to toe all week as Landon ran one of his famous fevers. The upside to it all was that I found a doctor and learned about the Belgian healthcare system and had the opportunity to appreciate Landon a little bit more. I tell you, nothing makes me love Landon more than seeing 105+ on the thermometer. As of today all is well and things are quickly returning to normal.
A friend of mine from church offered to let me tag along with her on a trip today to the British store a bit out of town. To say it was wonderful would be an understatement. Although it is British and the focus was on British items, it also had many American items that I have been living without the last 3 months. It's amazing how quickly (and willingly) I was able to throw down obscene amounts of money for Cheerios and other such "novelty" goods. I tried to remember all members of the family on my outing and scored the following items for their enjoyment:

Hooray for American JUNK food!!! Brayden cracked me up with thinking he was a fairy...that is just so Brayden. I'm sorry about the sicknesses though. That is rough. I hope everyone is back to their normal mischief. (And, don't feel bad about willingly laying down a load of cash for the American food....I'm doing it right with you...and I'm "IN" America! Oh my...save my wallet and my waist!!!)
I honestly don't know what I would do with out Dr. Pepper or vanilla...Hopefully you'll get a nice care package in December:)
I always loved the chance to get American food on my mission- like Peanut Butter. We did not have nearly those options I see you had there at your store.
Brayden cracks me up!
well, all I need is your address and vanilla extract...here it comes ;)
so how is the healthcare system??
glad things are on the up and up...
Brayden is such a crack up... I can't wait to see those kids of yours at Christmas! My heart jumps everytime I hear Landon has a fever, I hope he is doing much better and that you guys can get through the winter season without anymore fevers!
I was going to suggest making your own vanilla extract, I saw it on a blog somewhere a few days ago, but after looking it up again saw that it requires Vodka and has to soak for up to 6 months. So, I guess if you are REALLY desperate you can make your own.
I didn't know Cheerios was made by Nestle?!! Wow! I love reading your adventures!
I'm sorry your kids got so sick, I know how not fun it is. Where did you get your doctor? I saw today that there were a couple of generalists around the Stockel market. I also love the British store but always thinks twice before getting anything there because it's so pricey, I'm glad you had fun there. As for vanilla extract, I would love to get some too so let me know if you find some. As for making them yourself, my family have vanilla fields and we make homemade ones by marinating the vanilla beans in rhum, it's smells so good.
There is vanilla flavoring in my Delhaize -- I'm not sure if it's true extract or what, but it's a little bottle that says "vanilla" and it's in the baking section! (Close to baking powder, small bags of almonds, etc.) I have had people bring "pure vanilla extract" over for me but I have used that too. Good luck!
I love what Brayden said. I can't stop laughing. I'm glad you found some american goodies. I totally missed those in China. I can't wait to see you guys at christmas. One of these days I will find the time to call you. I always remember when you are sleeping. Maybe when Avery is born and I am home!
Sorry to hear your little guys were sick... I hate that. I have to say your "American shopping" is hilarious. Who knew a can of chicken soup could be a novelty? And is that Newman's Own dressing? Wow, that stuff gets around!
I don't think I could survive without cream of chicken soup. I use it for cooking A LOT! I am impressed that you have made it this long without it. I hope we get to see you guys at Christmas! Last year I swore I wouldn't go to Utah again for Christmas, but knowing you will be there is making me reconsider. We'll see.
i could go on and on and list off the many things that made me giggle from this post. man i just love you lisa! it seems like only yesterday we driving in your new grown up car, thining we were all cool, getting some TCBY and rocking to en vogue. ;> man how time flies...
yay for food. but where is the real junk? the cheetos, the ramen...you know the good stuff.
Hey girl come take my poll!!
Love it!!!
