Ryan drove up to Amsterdam tonight for The Killers concert. Tomorrow he and I are headed to Paris to see the French Open. Monday is a holiday and we're doing something, so lest I get behind in my blogging, here's Switzerland!
We have found when traveling with our kids on a longer vacation that it is much easier to have a "home base" as opposed to moving around from place to place. It also helps in keeping the cost of our trips down as we can eat breakfast at home and cook dinner at home, if so inclined. We employed this technique on this trip and had our home base in Grindelwald, a small little village about 30 minutes SE of Interlaken. We stayed in a small, 2 bedroom chalet that was cozy and mountainous and perfect. We spent all of our time in the Jungfrau Region, riding trains, catching cable cars, and hiking. We would wake up every morning, eat breakfast, consult our maps, pack a lunch, and head out for the day. Except for one day of rain and fog, the weather was gorgeous. Even though we were early in the season, we were able to do everything we had planned except for 2 hikes and a cable car ride that was closed due to snow. We ended everyday with a good meal, warm showers, and games. Uno Junior anyone? Overall - like I said in my previous post - it was the best family trip ever. There were times as we were hiking between no-car-villages that we literally had to pinch ourselves at the beauty that was surrounding us. I remember saying to Ryan one day, "I've never been so happy," and in that moment, I don't think anything could have been better. Communing with nature surrounded by those I love so fiercely...the thought makes me want to go back right now. :> Since I have posted so many pictures, I will only add captions where I deem appropriate. (pictures posted in no specific order)

I'm so jealous, Greg served his mission there and has been itching to get back. Such a beautiful country!
lucky lucky you.
that's so awesome!!! I totally loved, and laughed out loud at the sherpa thing!!!! That's so awesome, and even jeleous of the concert!!!
Switzerland it beautiful and everything, but the thing I'm most jealous about is that Ryan gets to see The Killers in concert! They do a huge European tour and hardly anything in the states:(
wow! you are a FABULOUS scenic photographer!!! what a great time. i'm somewhat jealous that you get to experience all this fantastic beauty (i may have to save my pennies faster to visit europe and have you be my tour guide :D)
Beautiful scenery! I miss you guys. Your kids are growing up too fast!
I am so glad that you shared your happy feelings. I am so happy that you are feeling so very happy. I want you to always feel that way.
Wow, my jaw is still dropped - those pics are ALL breathtaking!
So gorgeous. I was able to visit Switzerland (Luzern) for just 1.5 days, two years ago and it was cloudy... so we couldn't even see the mountains! I am sorry not to have been able to go further into the country and seen some of these amazing places you have captured on film so well. Breath-taking!
I have to admit that this is honestly the first time I have been literally jealous of your experiences. Gladly I don't think I need to ever visit though because your pictures are so beautiful that I feel like I'm there. I even get that sinking "I'm too high above the earth" feeling when I see some of your tram pictures. The only thing I asked Jess the other day is what happens when you have another child? Your three oldest will be seasoned multi culture kids who have bonded with memories of places like Switzerland and then what? Little Lisa Jr. next to the hot dog stand at your local american grocery store? You should really come home now so we can all go back together...you know to ensure everyone has the same experiences. :D - Paul
I love blogs! Those pictures said it all. I felt like I was there with you. Switzerland looks like I remembered it. Ryan totally looked like he fit well with the Switzerland ancestry! Sonnet is sending him the family histories we have, so stay tuned. I LOVED the picture of the three kids together! Love you All!
Aunt Kathrine mentioned how pretty & how much you all liked it there. I sent Ryan some of the stories. Its BEAUTIFUL there!! How exciting to see where our ancestors came from!
