My OTHER Life

I have realized that most of my posts are about my kids. Which is quite fitting seeing as though that is what I spend 99.5% of my life doing and dealing with. However, the other .5%, I actually do have a life (well, depending on what your definition of "having a life" is...) I find though that however much of a "life" I have without my children, the two tend to always intersect. Take last night...

My friend Amy has been wanting me to help her make some hair bows for her darling daughters to match their Holiday outfits. Being in a desperate situation (as she wanted them for church today) I planned on going to her house last night to help her. I had to run some errands first (to pick up the last bits of my children's holiday outfits...notice the intersection) and so she and I decided to meet at our local outdoor mall, do a little shopping, then make hair bows. Well, 1 store turned into 5 stores and we found ourselves running from store to store (this was for us now!) before each one closed. At one point in our stop at Macy's we were carrying so many clothes and laughing so hard, we could hardly walk. Who knew shopping without children and with a girlfriend could be so intoxicating?! So, before we knew it, it was 10pm and we had yet to make hair bows.

Now, what does a good mother who needs hair bows do in this situation? Improvise! We headed to McDonalds, ordered enough sugar to keep us awake for a while, and literally sat in the largest booth McDonalds had with bins of ribbon and flowers and other supplies. Now, I had originally planned on making bows at Amy's house so I didn't bring some necessary supplies like scissors and a hot glue gun. Although the Manager at McDonalds was not able to furnish a hot glue gun and electrical outlet, he was able to provide some scissors. It was so fun and so hilarious to look around at all of the teenage boys in McDonalds at 11:oo at night glancing over with looks as if to say, "What are those old ladies doing in that booth?!" We really wanted to get a picture of us and our set-up at McDonalds, but unfortunately neither of us had our cameras. Thankfully we were able to pump out the necessary bows and we had a great time!

Also, I have been tagged by my cousin Jenny and I am supposed to do 3 things about myself and 3 things I'm thankful for. Since I already did 6 things about myself (see earlier post) I thought I would just do 3 things I am thankful for in keeping with the spirit of Thanksgiving this week (WARNING - THIS MAY GET SAPPY):

1. Ryan! I know I talk about how thankful I am for my kids, but I'm not always so vocal about my feelings for Ryan, even though they are there. I am so thankful for Ryan every day of my life. He is so kind and thoughtful and loving and hard working and a wonderful husband and father - not to mention the fact that he is SMOKIN' hot! I could not ask for anything more than what Ryan is. I love him!

2. The gospel! At it's most base level, I am thankful for the knowledge I have that we have a loving Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ who watches over us always. I am thankful for that every morning I wake up and every night when I go to sleep.

I will end this post with something less serious or sappy, but something I am definitely thankful for!!

3. Tivo! How did people watch TV before Tivo? I think it's definitely one of the greatest inventions ever and I am thankful for Tivo everyday. :)

I love your shopping and making hair bows at McDonalds story! That sounds like so much fun. Made me smile. I think sometimes we do have an "other life" and as our kids get older they come together more. How's that for profound? Love your blog page!!

This reminded me so much of our college years! Do you remember how we couldn't go to sleep at the same time because we would stay up laughing until it was so late (or rather really early). We would be exhausted the next day . . . only to do it again the next night. How did we ever end up as roommates? I love reading your blog - it always brings back so many great memories!
